Today Sunday, July 18th a good sized group took advantage of the LIHT Aiston Preserve tour led by Elizabeth Kilanowski and assisted by Dawn Dietrich.
Elizabeth explained the history of the area, how the acquisition of the property occurred, what the long term plans are, what is going to happen soon, and the geology of the area.
We hiked up to the top of the old quarry work for a spectacular view across the water. Afterwards we went down into “the pit” for more great information about the rocks with a close up look of all the abandoned quarry equipment that is going to handled soon.

Permits are in hand and contractors have been hired to begin the heavy construction work for the first part of the Aiston Preserve restoration project.
This is your chance to tour the preserve prior to construction, get a firsthand look at the “before” condition of the land, and learn about this exciting restoration project. Don’t forget to bring a mask and wear walking shoes.
