Whatcom Chief 60th – Thank you!

Whatcom Chief 60th – Thank you!

The event was a great success and extremely well attended at both the Orchard Park and the Island Library’s Hanson meeting room.

Brooke afterwards said the room was often Packed with people looking at all the great Memorabilia, Photos, Architects drawings, and the two videos. Folks were really enjoying watching the Video interview with Pat Loughlin produced by Isaac Colgan, and the one about the Whatcom Chief Ferry itself produced by Tom Phillips. Besides both being very informative, they had the audience laughing at the little bits of humor sprinkled through out. She estimated that there were well over 100 people who have seen the videos and displays so far. The displays and videos will also be available on Tuesday it you were not able to attend Sunday.

At the Park everyone was enjoying the live music by Shawn McCole (who provided the flatbed trailer for the event) and the Cabbage Patch band. Often there was dancing in the center part of the event, off in the grass, and in the side areas. Many had brought their chairs or blankets and enjoyed the goings on from under the trees and on the grass.

The Grange provided Hot Dogs, Chips and Soft Drinks, while we at LICA provided 4 large decorated cakes, Ferry shaped cookies (thank you Connie Berry for making them), and to Alan Krum for making the cookie cutter and Punch.

A big thank you to Bill and Kris Sager who did the 60th Anniversary Print, and then signing and numbering by hand each of the 100 limited editions. They were printed by Applied Digital Imaging on 100lb acid free Linen paper. They also printed on acid free paper the Ferry Design and History information sheets that are intended to go with the large print. We also wish to thank Fourth Corner Frames & Gallery in Bellingham for the last minute excellent framing of the 1/100 display print owned by Alan Krum.

Print sales have been outstanding, and we are now filling orders after the event as well. If you would like a print contact please Only contact us at Info@LICA.us and we will arrange for you to get one.

We are in Budget for the event due to your continuing Support of the Community via LICA at the event, and your annual support each year which covers all of our services to the Community including The Tome, Lummi Island Directory (new one is coming in 2023) Brown Betty, the Community website, Meals on Wheels, and more. We are looking at other providing other future events for the Community – funded via your support.

A huge callout and thank you to Greg Hall who moved Shawn’s large trailer and decked it out. Chris Immer provided the large generator and the small trailer to move the beast. Later on use of the Cabbage Patch band’s generator to provide the power as well.
