2024 Roadside Cleanup on April 6th

2024 Roadside Cleanup on April 6th

This year LICA will be hosting the Roadside Cleanup on April 6, 2024 along with The Grange, Resilient Lummi and LIHT. Plus special treats from Janice Holmes for our 9:30am meet-up time. We will meet at the Grange at 9:30am to enjoy hot beverages and pastries before we start.

During our socializing time, we will be signing up for which roadside team (of which there will be 12) we’ll be working with, and to sign waiver forms for the event. Each group will be assigned to a lead truck to take them to the site. All teams will be provided with garbage bags, hand-picker, and a Clean Swell Marine Debris Tracking Data Sheet that will be provided by LIHT. This sheet is to report the kind of trash that is picked up and how much.

The Truck Leads will take the teams to their roadside segment at 10am and then once all the roadside is clean and looking good, they will bring you back to the Grange to drop off all the trash and other debris.

Following the cleanup, there’ll be a “thank you” lunch served at the Grange of hot dogs, chips, cookies, and lemonade provided by LICA and prepared by members of the Grange. Also joining in this community effort will be members of the newly formed Resilient Lummi to help sort recyclables from the trash. Our debris pile there will then be transported to the mainland by Whatcom County Public Works Adopt-a-Road team.

Twelve volunteer drivers with trucks or trailers are needed on April 1st for the Roadside Clean-Up. Call Jesse Powell at 564-203-8156 to be a driver or if anyone has questions.

Hope to see you there!
