Lummi Island Health & Wellness (LIH&W) Program Update – Bob Anderson
Planning for the new Health and Wellness Program is proceeding at a rapid pace. Here’s a description of the overarching goal and priorities for next year being developed by the Board of Directors:
To create a hub for health and wellness services and activities, centered at The Gathering Place. 2025 priorities are:
- Establish telehealth technology and support, a group of health and wellness advocates, foot care services, and exercise and wellness classes.
- Identify and make available information about health and wellness services, including in-home care and other programs, activities, and resources; set up ways to share the information and make it easily accessible to Islanders.
- Develop capacity to provide ongoing coordination for LIH&W projects and activities, including ongoing assessment of Islanders’ health and wellness needs and desires.
Once the Action Plans are completed, funding requests to local area foundations will be submitted to fund the various initiatives. As mentioned before we have benefited greatly from the support of PeaceHealth and the Chuckanut Health Foundation to get us started. Regular reports will be provided to the Island community through these articles, updates to our section on the LICA website (https://ourlummiisland.org/), and public forums we will hold in the spring and summer. If you have questions, comments or suggestions, please don’t hesitate to contact any one of us on the Board: Bob Anderson and Pam Gould, Co-Chairs, Jane Phillips, Secretary, Tom O’Brien, Sandy Earle, Lisa Wochos, Allison de La Bruere/Blake, Lynn Young, and Shristi Reddy.
