At 12 Noon Twenty-Five teams of civic minded involved community members will hitting the roads all over the Island to participate in umpteenth Annual Lummi Island Roadside Clean Up Event. Please be extra cautious while driving between 12 and 4 today. Slow down if you see a cleanup team and even better roll down your window and tell them thanks for helping make Lummi Island even more beautiful than it already is.
Roadside Clean up team members can learn how to use the Clean Swell App to categorize, and track litter that they find on the island as they contribute valuable data to an ongoing LI Heritage Trust Marine Debris education and prevention program on island and world wide. If you need help with the app or want to pick up Paper Copies of Logs to record the trash you picked up.. head to the Island Library – They are open and happy to help you!
During the webinar that just ended, Katie Johnson from LI Heritage Trust, Brooke Pederson from Island Library, and Carolyn Nickerson from SciStarter.org talked about how Islanders can become involved in the growing global Citizen Science movement. You can go to the Heritage Trust’s website at any time to learn about the current Citizen Science projects. liht.org/citizen-science
